Social & Welfare
The Social and Welfare Committee performs the Islamic duties of the IAR with regard to the upkeep and support of those in dire need. It manages the collection of Zakat and Sadaqa and distributes it locally and internationally, especially during times of crisis. We also provide financial and other assistance where necessary (application available in the Masjid lobby).
The committee also oversees a food pantry which services both Muslims and non-Muslims (open every 1st Saturday of the month). Children of families in need are provided with school supplies, Eid clothes, and warm clothes for winter.
Through the IAR Support Group, volunteers help with cooking, cleaning, transportation to medical appointments and visitation for the sick. They set up apartments for refugee families with items donated by the community, and provide transportation to appointments, shopping, etc. They organize rides to the mosque for refugee brothers and ensure that refugee children attend Sunday School classes. They teach ESL classes, and provide general support for refugee families. They also provide assistance and support to women during times of crises.
Without the help of Allah (swt) and the generosity of the community, this committee would not be able to function. There is always a need for active volunteers. To join the IAR Support group please enquire with any member of the Social & Welfare Committee.
