Eid Announcements

Announcing the day of Eid

We are nearing the end of the blessed month of Ramadan. On Wednesday, September 8th, the moon will set before the sun sets in most of the world. However, there is a slight possibility of sighting in some parts of the southwestern United States, where the moon will set after the sun sets. We will carefully monitor for crescent moon sightings and make an official announcement on the IAR website by 11:00pm on Wednesday, September 8th inshallah. If we can confirm a new crescent moon sighting, Eid ul Fitr will be on Thursday, September 9th. If we cannot confirm a new crescent moon sighting, we will complete 30 days of Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr will be on Friday, September 10th.

Time and Location of Eid Prayer

Eid Prayer will be held in the Exposition Center at the State Fairgrounds. The gathering will begin at 7:45 AM. The prayer will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. Please plan on arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of prayer to allow for traffic and parking delays. Please also remember to bring a prayer rug with you. Zakat ul Fitr is $10 per person and will be collected until the beginning of Eid Prayer. After the prayer, we will collect donations for the victims of the Pakistan flood disaster.

If Eid is on Friday, Jummah prayers are not obligatory for those who attend the Eid prayer. We will however offer the third shift of Jummah at the Islamic Center of Raleigh. Jummah prayers will also be held at the Islamic Center of Morrisville.

Zakaatul-Fitr, the charity of breaking the fast, is obligatory on each Muslim young or old, male or female, rich or poor, if he owns extra food that exceeds the needs of him and his dependents for a period of twenty-four hours. A Muslim should pay on his behalf and on the behalf of his dependents that he supports such as his wife and children, etc.

You can pay $10 per person.

Zakaatul-Fitr can be given anytime during Ramadan, however, it must be given before the Eid prayer. Zakaatul-Fitr is given to poor Muslims, whose income is less than their basic needs.
